Innovative Solutions for Rare Skin Disorders

As part of Skinvisible’s dermatological product development effort, the Company has also focused on rare skin disorders, specifically Netherton Syndrome. Many rare skin disorders such as Netherton Syndrome have little to no approved treatment. Skinvisible’s formulations can offer improved outcomes and enhanced quality of life for Netherton Syndrome patients and potentially other similar conditions

Netherton Syndrome

Netherton Syndrome, a type of ichthyosis, is a genetic disease that is characterized by excessively scaly, circular red skin, brittle hair and increased susceptibility to atopic dermatitis. Patients with Netherton Syndrome have a mutated gene which is responsible for inhibiting serine proteinase, resulting in the chronic breakdown of the intra-cellular bounds of the skin. These patients also have a severe abnormality of their skin barrier. The disease, which presents itself at birth or within the first year, is a life-long affliction that can have debilitating and even fatal consequences. There are currently no treatments available for Netherton Syndrome and limited options to treat the symptoms. Skinvisible has developed a ground-breaking topical formulation which is a broad-spectrum serine proteinase inhibitor which helps address the underlying cause by preventing the constant breakdown of the skin, in combination with providing important skin barrier protection and adherence from our proprietary Invisicare polymer technology. The Company’s scientific innovation may pave the way for much needed solution for this rare skin condition.
